Book Review: Happy Healing

Summary

Happy Healing by Dominique Bourlet is a non-fiction book that teaches self-therapy. Its objective is to heal through steps that will relieve physical pain and discomfort. It aims not only to heal but be happy during and after the process of healing. The book is a complete guide for patients who would like to opt for a spiritual path in dealing with pain. Thus, Happy Healing is a practical spiritual workshop. Dominique Bourlet’s introduction of Lady Pain, as he calls it, is a strange creature that comes and goes but is never very far from us. He also mentioned that Lady Pain is like taxes, something that we must accept because it is a fact of life. There are many quotes in this book that are relatable and quite impressive; the metaphors demonstrate his vast experience as a healer and therapist. He wrote this book in three parts: (1) The Creation of The Method, (2) The Description of the Method, and (3) The Application of the Method. In the course of reading this book, you will learn that this self-healing methodology is a fusion of well-rooted therapeutic traditions from different countries. And if anyone would ask me how to successfully go through the steps and gain positive results, I would respond with only two words – LOVE YOURSELF.

Review

There are three things that I like about this book: (1) The author was successful in making it very informative – I’ve learned about how body whispering is just like horse whispering, a strategy that consists of taming horses that are aggressive like stallions, defensive like mares, unfocused like castrated horses or gelding, or horses that are fearful; the approach has similarities in dealing with patients and most importantly, how we deal with ourselves, (2) The author was so impressed by the breathtaking healing sessions in the Philippines that he wrote a book about Filipino healers in French language and adapted a prayer for this book of self-therapy. It’s my country, so I am naturally proud of any positive mentions about it, and lastly (3) There are sample sessions from patients that will serve as the author’s testament to how effective Happy Healing can be. There is only one thing that I dislike about this book, but it has impacted my decision in rating it; I found many flaws that are indicative of poor editing and they aren’t errors that need an eagle’s eye. Thus, I am giving this a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Also, because of its spiritual concept, my recommendation is limited to readers who are religious or people who are willing to try a spiritual path in healing themselves. Anyone who isn’t open to the idea of spiritual healing will not appreciate the methodology stated in this book.
