Book Review: Oh yes…total chaos everywhere

Summary

Rudy Flynn, an Irish American journalist awakes to the sound of helicopters and police sirens wailing. Apparently, there have been explosions in Brooklyn and Manhattan and people are protesting all over the place. He finds out that establishments have been blown up, people have been killed, and some were injured. With similar cases happening in Europe, Rudy is hired by the U.S. State Department to travel so he can get a glimpse of what is happening; he ends up travelling not only in Europe but around the world which takes him to many alarming political and social issues that he need to report back to his news agency despite the possible threats he may encounter.

Oh yes…total chaos everywhere is a dark humour thriller by Phil Rowan. The story tackles very sensitive issues from many parts of the world and is told through the eyes of a very competent journalist named Rudy Flynn. With riots in France, bombing in Dublin, drugs all over Mexico, and LGBT activists campaigning in Trinidad, more chaos awaits Rudy’s arrival. He then becomes the primary source of critical reports that contain views from head of government departments down to ordinary citizens.

Review

This book has a lasting impression because of the main character’s unchanging personality from beginning to end; Rudy goes where the world takes him and accepts what life has to offer. Whether it’s work or personal, he’s completely obedient and doesn’t dwell on the gravity of the situations; he just simply does what he’s asked to do. I wouldn’t say I like his submissive character, but it does make it interesting and quite amusing how he just complies to dangerous assignments the way he complies to more than 20 attractive women he met along the way.

Overall, I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars. It has very insightful takes on social and political issues and every chapter is a journey to a different place, different characters, and different chaos which make it hard to put down. I recommend this to readers who love political thriller, but I am limiting my recommendation to adult readers due to its sensitive issues and sensual contents.
