Book Review: Cut and Run

Summary

The story starts with the abduction of a pregnant young girl named Paige Sheldon. Upon being held captive in a secret isolated place, she discovers the initials JJ, OM, and KS on the back of the dresser in her room and realizes that there have been other girls before her. In the outside world, Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden finds Jack Crow's dead and tortured body in his trailer. Dr. Faith McIntyre of the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office performs an autopsy on the 64-year old man and works closely with Hayden and Nancy, a death scene investigator. Upon examining the case, they learn about Jack Crow's son named Dirk, and a daughter named Macy, who has been gone for years. Faith soon discovers that Macy might be related to her. However, before they could meet in person, Macy gets hit by a car and ends up in a coma. Faith then comes face to face with the woman lying in a hospital with the same exact face as her - Faith is in complete shock to finally meet Macy, her twin. Hayden and Faith uncover the connections between Jack Crow's death, Macy's accident, the missing girl, and Faith's possible relationship to one of the 3 other girls who were abducted before Paige.

Review

The pacing was fast - continuous action and suspense made this book hard to put down and I especially love Kat, a pregnant teen who has been in and out of foster homes, and ended up under Faith's care. Kat's rebellious but investigative personality was the main thing that got me engaged in reading the book. I saw reviews about this book being sexy and romantic but I didn't feel any of that, despite the author's effort. Either it wasn't as effective or I may have just wanted this book as a mystery novel. Overall, the story was good so I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars. Although my experience in reading it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be, it may have been because of my lack of judgment towards Faith and Hayden as lovers in the story. That being said, I recommend this book to readers who love mystery, suspense, and thriller.
