Book Review: A Bed of Roses

Summary

A Bed of Roses is a family drama by Ann Marie Jameson. Set in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the story begins when Jack Bordelon passes away. He leaves a will stating that all his estate including a portion of Bell Rose will go to his second wife, Lilly. The Bordelon children from Jack’s first wife, Maggie, including their aunts and uncles, can’t believe that Jack would do such a thing. Together, they team up to get what is rightfully theirs.

Review

Okay, first of all, this book made me hungry because of the cooking and eating moments! Plus, there are lots of recipes here like coffee cake, pie crust, potato casserole, and pecan muffins! Second, this book made me envious of the bond that the Bordelon family has. I wish I had siblings, aunts, and uncles who’d be there to help me too when I’m in a bind. When my papa died, things got so complicated that my family as well as my papa’s side of the family were torn apart. We haven’t reunited since then. This book made me want to bring back the closeness I used to have with my siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles. But of course, we all have our own busy lives now from different parts of the world, and the pandemic is a big hindrance to be close to anyone.

While there were many things I liked about this book, my most favorite part of the story was the court hearing because legal fiction is one of my favorite genres. If there’s one thing I didn’t like, it’s definitely Lilly. Overall, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s heartwarming, amusing, informative, and relatable. If you’re interested in food, court proceedings, and family drama, this book is for you!
