Review
Add Value—Improve the Status Quo is a self-help and guidebook by Paul B. Thornton about leading yourself and others. The book is divided into three sections: (1) "Define Your Core Beliefs and Values" which focuses on identifying your core beliefs and values and start by leading yourself, (2) "Leadership Concepts" which focuses on three leadership styles and the leadership process which includes four steps, and (3) "Using Your Power and Influence" which is critical for every leader.
Paul provides a lot of practical advice and guidance that will help you be a more effective leader. The book covers many skills and techniques that I wish I knew way back like maybe two decades ago when I was a Quality Associate Manager.
In preparing to write this book, Paul interviewed his five grandsons ages 10-to-17. He includes some of their refreshing and insightful comments throughout the book. If I had read this book before I started leading people, it would’ve helped me a lot.
Overall, I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars for providing clear and actionable steps that will help you add value and improve the status quo. This book covers all the actions needed to be a great leader.
