Book Review: Ageless Confessions

Summary

Ageless Confessions is a collection of mystery drama stories by Lilith Street. The book begins with a prologue that dates back to 985 BC in Jerusalem where people are suffering and desperate for spiritual food. Then the first story comes in. Set in Rockland, 1897, it introduces the first protagonist, Celia and her sisters. Celia is a governess at the Rossiter Estate while her sister Branwen models for an art school. She and her sisters along with their parents travel to England to be muses for the painting, Flora and the Zephyrs by J. W. Waterhouse. Then, the book jumps into the story of Sarah and the Bird Woman in Fairfield in 1994, and concludes with the story of young women with eating disorders who are seeking to enter the City of Roses.

Review

I was in awe from the first page to the succeeding pages of this book. The stories were written in lovely prose and tells a unique viewpoint of inspiring characters throughout history. I love how it shows different confessions on different levels and inculcates the importance, not only of the pressing issues being tackled, but also of the many forms of arts that surround the protagonists: painting and literature, singing and dancing, and even filmmaking. Though the structure almost threw me off at some point, I couldn’t resist the beautiful writing and inspirational characters in this collection of stories. Hence, I am giving it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to readers who are into historical anthologies.
