Book Review: Because You're Blind

Summary

Because You’re Blind is a memoir by Rebecca S. Meadows. The story of her life begins in 1989 at the tender age of 12 years old, where she wakes up from a coma, only to find herself suddenly robbed of the ability to see due to a severe brain injury. Her dire situation brings about many struggles and complications, leading to deceit and manipulation, and resulting to lawsuits involving the people who are supposed to protect her. In this book, the author wants to bring to the attention of the legal system, that the laws pertaining to guardianships must be changed. She wants to help families and individuals whose lives have been impacted by a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), so they can be better equipped in dealing with the massive life changes that come with it.

Review

I held back my tears while reading this heartbreaking story. It is devastating, but at the same time, I am very impressed with the courage it took for the author to publish this book. This memoir was so comprehensive that I could faintly imagine how hard it must’ve been to write such a catastrophic story. It's devastating to know how people can be such manipulative monsters fueled by greed of money. What the writer went through since the age of 12 until the present day due to flaws in the legal system might be happening to other people like her and that has to stop. Overall, I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars for the depth, knowledge, and awareness that the author has shared through her personal experiences. Highly recommended.
