Book Review: Chronicles of Rondure: Civil War

Summary

Chronicles of Rondure: Civil War is a speculative fiction by TC Marti. The story revolves around Mina Hirai who has been culled at age five into the Bastille Military, the world of Rondure's superpower. She has mastered the Smoke Element and learned to never apologize about using it on enemies. However, after exposing Bastille's crimes, they became her enemy. That left her with no choice, but to call upon her Sword of Smoke and escape. With every combat technique they taught her, she aims to use them against them to finish the mission she started by unplugging the people of Bastille, and letting them know who the real enemy is: their home nation and it's Capital City of Paramount.

Review

I think I would consider this book, a kickass coming-of-age story, except Mina Hirai isn't like any normal teenager because she's been training all her life, only to end up using her powers against the ones who trained her. That mere concept alone is already compelling! And it's hard not to like Mina Hirai and the rest of the characters. I wish the ending wasn't abrupt though. It felt like a long and grueling but exciting journey that just suddenly ended and I wanted more. Nevertheless, I've had a fun reading experience with this awesome story of a whistle-blowing heroine whom I think has the coolest power out of all the Elementals that I have come to know in TC Marti's books. Hence, I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers who are into action, sci-fi fantasy, and dystopian thriller.
