Book Review: Falling Rock: A High Plains Native Legend

Summary

Falling Rock: A High Plains Native Legend is a children’s fiction book written by Rachel Salgado and illustrated by Deandra Eubanks. The story was adapted from the “Legend of Falling Rock” to express the history and culture of the High Plains Native American.

Falling Rock is a brave warrior who’s ready to take a bride, but must first deliver 40 magnificent ponies over the rocky crags of the mountains. This then sets him on a journey that will change lives.

Review

I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a very informative Native American folk tale that children would love as it inculcates Sioux Indian culture through a fascinating story with eye-pleasing illustrations. It also has strong identifiable characters that evoke emotion, and rich vocabulary that will feed children’s minds. I highly recommend this to children ages 5 – 12 years old.
