Book Review: From Hell to Home: The Final Vietnam Story

Summary

From Hell to Home: The Final Vietnam Story is a historical fiction, action, romance, and adventure by DJ Power. The story depicts the life of Jim Coleman, a military man who survived a critical head injury. The story begins when he is taken out of a body bag after being confirmed to still be alive. He is taken to the hospital and rushed to the emergency room for surgery and luckily survives a gunshot in the head. After his recovery, he goes back to work in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and continues his duty as a CIA agent. Unfortunately, he struggles to perform his duties due to the wearying effects of his head injury.

Review

Jim is a lovable character though he has traits that I like and a few traits that I'm not in favor of, one of which is his stubbornness. Like still wanting to continue his mission even when he's body is saying otherwise. He embodies lots of patriotic men who would sacrifice their life and happiness for their country. Although patriotism is a virtue that should be admired, it is a dreadful virtue for a mother like me who has a son. So, there were instances in the book that were hard to endure because Jim pushes himself too far. Nevertheless, I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I like the bravery, compassion, and selflessness he possesses, and I recommended this book to mature readers who are into military fiction. It’s a good and entertaining military story that inculcates values.
