Summary
When Master Colburn died shortly after Matt was conceived, and Mistress Colburn died during his birth, Pete became Matt’s legal guardian, and Natalie became his wet nurse; she raised him ever since, as if he’s her own son. Natalie and Matt suffer under Pete’s cruelty, but they couldn’t completely hate him because there are times when he’s compassionate. Pete’s dual personality doesn’t make sense, until many years later when he finds out what’s causing his evil side to come out.
Review
Revelations: The Colburn Curse by Catalina DuBois is a psychological suspense thriller and romance that had me in a whirlwind of emotions. I cringed, laughed, I got scared out of my wits, I got flustered, and then fell in love. This book has all the elements that would keep readers invested. It’s like a very disturbing but addictive soap opera with lots of twist, and my usual decisiveness got broken when I found myself hating and loving the same character. It also had me wondering if all psychos have the same illness as Pete.
I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars. The author is a master of creating complexities which make the book so compelling and full of emotional triggers. I love all the lovable characters, hate the despicable ones, and I love the thrill of not knowing what’s next.
I recommend this awesome story to ALL mature readers who want to experience everything in just one book. There are sexual assaults and brutal events that are very cringe-worthy, so brace yourself. I can, however, promise that there are many charming incidents in this book that a romance lover wouldn’t want to miss.
In addition, the book is a prequel to Book of Matthew: House of Whispers which brought time all the way back to 1819, then fast-forwarded to 1830, 20 years before the story of Matthew and Sarah. Although these two books are very much related due to the generations of slavery and interracial romance, they can be standalones. Though of course, I would very much recommend to read both because again, they’re AWESOME.
