Book Review: Sacred: Contemplation & Introspection

Summary

Sacred: Contemplation and Introspection is a collection of poetry by Anisha Gilani. The author’s intent is to provide a pointer towards something much deeper that resides within us. It is her gentle attempt to create a dialogue within ourselves and experience this so-called sacredness that we have.

Review

All the poems in this book are really good! In the first three poems, I can feel the author’s bitterness over losing the value of sacredness, losing oneself, and having no free will. There’s also a poem where she talked about her desire to be closer to God. As I read more, it felt like her thoughts came from the depths of her soul, freeing herself from the gravity of her experiences and the perception of others.

Out of over 20 amazing poems, I could best relate to O’ My Tender Heart because the author talks about why we have fears, why we desire so much, why we cry, and why we worry so much. These are also things that I contemplate on, especially during this pandemic era.

I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. I hope I have understood the poems the way that the author wanted to relay them. The topics seem simple, but the emotions that she poured out to write the poems are so deep and complex, just like the world is, and just like every human being is.
