Book Review: Shadows of Passion

Summary

Shadows of Passion is a psychological suspense drama and historical romance novel by David Scott. Cindy LaForge is a new teacher at Butler High School, and Harry Richards is one of her students. Their intense attraction to each other connect them in a surge of emotion as they share their mental and drug issues, and explore their sexual desires, both unaware of spies who are working on a case involving Cindy’s husband, Frank Laforge, an aeronautical engineer at NASA.

Review

Wow, this book is a fusion of different genres! And it has good historical references, info on manic depression, well-established characters with backstories, and a compelling storyline! The main characters were built from the start, showing how much they think alike and could be soul mates. The exhilarating stages of development in Cindy and Harry’s relationship which started with secret message swaps and a one-ringer gives this book a nostalgic vibe, which I really miss because it’s lacking in modern-day romance. I love that the concept is so typical, but then the author spins that cliché student and teacher affair into a wonderfully-written story. Though I found some errors, I couldn’t care less because they didn’t impact the overall reading experience.

Hence, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. Don’t be fooled by its cover because there is so much more than kinky sexual gymnastics in this story! This book has substance! And I highly recommend it to mature readers who want to experience a mix of romance, international espionage, and psychological drama in a historical setting.
