Skinny Dipping in a Dirty Pond is a family drama by Lis Anna-Langston. It’s a novel about parenting and relationships that are based from a true story; it’s a fine blend of truth and fiction. Set in the 80s, the story revolves around Cotton, a very young child from a small southern town. From her mother who’s a drug addict, to her mentally unstable uncles, her family mostly consists of dysfunctional adults. Her home doesn’t have the best guardians and environment for a kid who needs proper caring and nourishing, but as she discovers the world outside, her unconventional situation doesn’t hinder her from enjoying simple things that give her happiness such as books, soda, and her imaginary friend.
Review
I absolutely love this book! Cotton makes this supposedly depressing and heavy drama story adorably amusing! There are so many situations where I'm just about to cry, but then Cotton would do or say something silly that just switches the mood from very sad to funny! Same thing with the dangerous situations, she always does something cute that just lightens the gravity of the situation! I love it! I’ve never been as thoroughly entertained by a book that’s supposed to make me cry!
Overall, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a heartwarming family drama told through the eyes of a very lovable and amusing child named Cotton. This book will make you teary-eyed, then laugh right after. If you’re looking for something to brighten up your day, this book will surely entertain you throughout the story.
