Book Review: Still Busy Steering

Review

Still Busy Steering is a collection of stories by Rebecca S. Meadows. It’s her second short story anthology which revolves around blind women who are each “steering” God’s power in a certain direction to accomplish their own goals in life. Faith being the most powerful motivation is manifested in the stories as different situations are meticulously depicted to enlighten, encourage full trust in our creator, and inspire other people who are in very challenging situations to keep fighting. Even though the women in this book are all different, for some reason, I couldn’t help but imagine them all as just one person encompassing Rebecca’s different personas. It’s because the tone of voice is very consistent, so I can’t help but think that all these characters are just one person in different situations, as if in a multiverse. The angry tone is very dominant, along with overflowing confidence. After all, she did manage to restore her scrambled brain and broken body despite everything that experts have predicted, and amidst all of it, she also took out a gang of ruthless lawyers who were sanctioned by the state of Montana to rob and abuse her for over twenty years. Overall, I’m giving this book 4 out 5 stars for teaching us how far strong beliefs can go, and for instilling what true faith is about.
