Book Review: Tess: The Flight of the Valkyries

Summary

Tess: The Flight of the Valkyries is an action romance and adventure novel by Andres Mann. It is one of the books in the Tess series. In this book, Claudine Bisson convinces Tess and Jake to a new venture that involves flying jet fighters. They hire a team of Russian specialists to train the women of SRD who are also called The Valkyries Ensemble, a group of six women who play chamber music. Meanwhile, Laurent Belcour is back from prison and wants revenge. He secretly invests in Tess and Jake’s jet fighter project to find a way to sabotage their plan.

Review

These are the things I liked about the book: (1) Colonel Peter Brusilov, an additional character in the story that the Valkyries hated at first, but then later on, they realized that he was just shaping them up to be an effective combat squadron, (2) When Jake didn’t judge Aara for her preference and just wanted to trust and support her in what she does, (3) The part when Jake realized he should’ve dumped Tess a long time ago, (4) The President’s request in exchange of revoking his order to have Colonel Brusilov return to Russia, (5) The story of the ‘Two Wolves,’ and (6) I like that the author made the book an illustrated edition because the photos helped me imagine the story better.

There are three things I didn’t like about the book: (1) Tess. I know she’s the lead in the book, but she never learns. She’s selfish, controlling, and doesn’t grow as a person. She just keeps on repeating the same mistakes over and over, (2) I didn’t like that Jake changed his mind. I wanted the right ending to this story. Lastly, (3) the book has poor editing.

Overall, I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars. The narrative and dialogues are very indicative of the author’s high intellect and knowledge about the topics and I recommend this book to ALL mature readers who want to experience a whirlwind of emotions and exciting adventures.
