Book Review: The Ghost Girl at Angel Cottage

Summary

The Ghost Girl at Angel Cottage is a sci-fi mystery by Deborah J. Barker. The story begins when Hannah was born and her father got into a car accident that robbed her family of a normal life. As she grew up, she felt like she was the cause of her family’s misery. When they went on a trip to Angel Cottage at Devon, she saw a mysterious girl.

In another time, Beatrice lost her sister and the only witness to the tragic event is a ghostly figure at angel cottage. Impossible as it might seem, a time slip allowed Hannah and Beatrice to meet one snowy Christmas Eve at Angel Cottage and both must work together across the years to uncover a mystery.

Review

A nostalgic read! It was well-written. The flow of narrative was smooth in uncovering a mystery that spans decades, switching from past to the future, and the characters, dialogues, and setting pulled me into the story as they evoked a myriad of emotions. It is stories like this that provide a nostalgic feeling because of its theme. Having encounters with the past or future through a significant place is always a fascinating read when delivered well, and the author delivered this well! The hardest in tackling a theme where the past and future collides, is how to make it unique despite the familiar concept of trying to change the past or the future, and the author was able to create ways to do just that. Overall, I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars.
