Book Review: The House on Tyner

Summary

The House on Tyner is a mystery thriller by Matthew O’Connell. The story begins with a brief introduction to Jackson Taylor’s phases in life. From his time as a baseball player, when he also had a beautiful wife and two adorable children in their seemingly perfect life. Then, he lost them, putting an end to phase one. He takes up cooking professionally, becomes a chef, and decides to open his own restaurant. His wife wanted to be a chef and open a restaurant too, so it was like he was fulfilling her dream. Then, the next phase begins. He starts seeing the ghost of a young girl when he moved to a new house. The same house where the previous owner murdered his entire family and killed himself. It was a mystery that Jackson will soon uncover.

Review

If there's something I love the most in this book, it's the conversations during Jackson’s meet up with friends and acquaintances. They were very informative. The characters talked about career vs their dreams. I also learned about cocktail drinks, the difference between American and English culture, the afterlife, the existence of ghosts, and a lot more. It also has very intriguing historical references that surprised me as much as they fed my knowledge.

I like the events that led up to uncovering the mysterious killing. The series of paranormal happenings kept me on the edge of my seat! Overall, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. I love mystery thriller stories and this one delivered an enjoyable, informative, and nostalgic read. Highly recommended to readers who are into ghost stories.
