Book Review: The Moonshadow Effect

Summary

In the midst of a calamity that flooded the lowlands of North Holland, evacuating the place was not only Max Dacre’s concern when a drone was sent to wipe him out. Fortunately, he survived. As an M16 operative, part of his job was to eliminate people that pose a threat to The Organisation, aka The Lab. But it seemed that he was the one facing termination. Instead of rescuing him when he was trapped due to the raging sea that broke through the dykes that night, his life was threatened. Why? He would soon find out…

Review

The Moonshadow Effect is a futuristic action thriller by Robert de Casares. This book is indicative of the author’s perception, not only on political issues, but also on literature and music. And it’s all because of the political, literary, and music references in the story. The story is a synthesis of factual events and fiction and I like the author’s creative mind. Moreover, the narrative is very fast-paced; there’s a lot going on from beginning to end, so there’s no dull moment.

There is one thing that’s keeping me from giving this book a perfect rating. I am not amenable with how women were portrayed in the story. I think that there could’ve been more substance to their character. Therefore, I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I think the story will be more appreciated by male readers.
