Book Review: The Psychopathic CEO: An Executive Survival Guide

Summary

The Psychopathic CEO: An Executive Survival Guide is a guide book for executives. Written by Jack McCullough who has served as a financial executive for 26 different companies, the book's objective is to help identify a potential psychopath and develop a survival strategy. Jack has interviewed medical professionals, law enforcement agents, investors, and executives who were victims of a psychopathic leader to create a very useful tool to survive, or better yet, prevent a psychopath from ruining the core values of a company.

Review

Wow! That’s the first thing to describe this book. This is possibly the one and only nonfiction book that I will read again. I rarely read a book twice because there's just so many awesome books out there and so little time to read all of them, but when I do read a book twice, it's always fiction. This book on the other hand, is an exception.

Reading this book evoked a sense of familiarity and unleashed a myriad of emotions as I reminisced the crazy life I had with my previous job. I was in a very toxic corporate environment for 11 years in the BPO industry and I resigned as a quality associate manager for health reasons. The primary cause of my health issues was actually our new slave-driving manipulative director who always had to get what she wants, regardless of the unreasonable demands. She was pregnant at that time, so no one could complain to her. We just let her ruin our mental and physical health until I had to stop that from ruining me further. And since I love myself more than working in that company, I quit. And I'm glad I did. Because now, I'm in control of my time and work projects and I would’ve never known it was possible to have a balanced life if I hadn’t quit that job.

I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was very intriguing, very informative, well researched, well written, definitely hard to put down. I love chapter five which was about famous CEOs with psychopathic traits and I couldn't agree more with the stories about some of those people, but I was shocked that there were a few in the list that I never knew about until I read this book. The author wrote this for executives, but I think that all employees in a toxic environment under an autocratic leadership or any scheming type of leadership will be able to appreciate this book. I highly recommend it.
