Summary
The Red Star of Death is an action thriller by Marc Liebman. The story revolves around Janis GoodRich, one of the most notorious assassins in the world. Retired, she lives an abundant life with her lover Karin Egger, enjoying some luxurious hobbies like racing cars and travelling. But the 9/11 attacks and Karin’s death changed her life. With fighting terrorism as the focus of intelligence agencies now, Janis is highly in demand to be back as an assassin. Unfortunately, she is nowhere to be found. No one knows where she is, what name she is using, or if she even wants to go back to her previous life. While CIA and Mossad badly want her services again in exchange for full immunity from prosecution for her past crimes, FBI Special Agent William Smith III is determined to put her behind bars.
Review
This book is insane! First of all, I didn’t expect that much diversity in the characters, so I was quite surprised to learn of Janis’ gender preference. However, that didn’t stop me from reading this action-packed military thriller. It was very intriguing from the start. The hook was strong, and I like the narrative flow. It started intense, switched to normal pacing, then got back into action. It would’ve been awesome to watch this on the big screen, so I am hoping for either a movie adaptation, or a limited series. All that travelling made me want to travel, too. But I think what makes this book extra special is the reference to factual events. As terrorism remains a global threat, this book depicts the ongoing fight against global terrorism. Overall, I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to readers who are into military action thrillers.
