Review
The Width of Here is a collection of poems by L. Ward Abel, a poet, composer, spoken-word performer, teacher, and retired lawyer. I love all the poems in this book, even if I had to rack my brain to understand the depth of his words. And though this book is under the category literary fiction, I strongly feel that the poems are his personal reflections about how the world has changed, and how he feels purposeful at one point, and on edge at times.
These are the lines that stuck with me the most:
"We're known by our remaining, not how we arrive." - Miller's Thumb
"And wind can give texture to things that cannot, will not move." – Conversation with Rothko - Blue
I’m giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. It brings to realization the essence of time, people, and the surroundings. This book exhibits the very essence of poetry, which is the same as that of music, expressing the indescribable, and stirring different emotions through the flow of words, rhythm, texture, and other artistic elements that make us feel. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of poetry.
