Summary
Tripolar: The Story of a Bipolar Triathlete is a memoir by Tim Davis. The book started with a prologue, then the first chapter told his story from when he was only 13. What was supposed to be a happy bonding with his father, turned out to be a traumatic event that changed his life. And in dealing with pain and distress, he numbed himself through alcohol and substance abuse. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but denied this illness as well as his addictions. Through triathlons and ultra-endurance racing, he was able to keep his sobriety and mental health.
Review
This book teaches mental, physical, and spiritual healing straight from a broken man who has bipolar disorder, and has suffered from the consequences of alcohol and substance abuse. I am shocked that someone would go through any lengths to pacify the need to drink and get high. That kind of life is a nightmare, not only for the user, but mostly for the user’s family.
If there is someone who truly deserves recognition in the author’s life transformation, it’s his wife, Mariah. She’s a real gem. And I am very impressed by the author’s courage to share his life through this book. It was a well-written memoir that will serve as an eye-opener to many.
I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars. This book is very informative, and it is bound to be a great tool of inspiration. The author used exercise for self-healing, and by sharing his life story, he will be helping other readers to heal too.
