Book Review: Trouble: A Yo Becham Mystery

Summary

Trouble: A Yo Becham Mystery is a crime investigation novel by Jack Burbank. Yo Becham is a mystery writer and bartender who seems to attract troubles into his life for prying on crime investigations. He even gets involved in his Thai girlfriend’s issue with the Russian mob. When a mass shooting transpires in his hometown and there’s only one clue found to solve the mystery of the massacre, he expresses his opinion to the Surfside Police department, except they couldn’t find any physical evidence of Yo’s theory. Because there aren’t any lead suspects and Yo’s unbelievable theory seems to be pinning the blame on one person, it raises Agent Kelly’s suspicion that Yo might be involved in the shooting incident.

Review

This book is an easy-to-read and fast-paced crime novel that has a relaxed feel. Unlike most crime stories that are usually distressing at some point because there are times when you don’t understand what the hell is happening or what the author’s talking about, this book is clear and precise. Also, the author used a conversational tone with a touch of humor, making the story entertaining.

The two things I like about this book are Yo and detective Doug’s real friendship, and Yo’s relationship and conversations with Ping, his Thai girlfriend. I think the language barrier and culture difference are so adorably amusing.

I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a good crime investigation novel that made the slang word, “gotcha” such an amusing expression. I recommend this book to readers who want something lite and fun to read during this crazy pandemic era.
