Review
Undercover in Jenns Cove: A Jenns Cove Romance by Marc Sanderson is a romantic story with a bit of suspense thriller. I didn’t get into it instantly, but it picked up when Maggie was having a cute argument with her three-year-old daughter about why she has to use a booster chair. As a single mom myself, I was able to relate to Maggie, and it was her daughter Megan who got me interested in reading this novel, and all the more interested when Jake moved to Jenns Cove with his dog, Sophie.
What I like about the story is the setting in Jenns Cove. It’s an oceanside small town where everyone knows each other and everybody seems to know each other’s business. I think it’s the quiet and ordinary life that made the place appealing; people had simple routines and heartwarming gatherings. I also like Jake’s character, a very rich city guy who just wants a simple life. His expertise in his field of work speaks much about the author’s knowledge of the topic.
There’s nothing I dislike about this book, though I am not too favorable of Maggie’s character because she embodies the hopeless romantics. She was instantly head over heels and made the first move. As a single mom, I would’ve expected for her to be more restrained, despite everybody pushing her into dating.
I’m giving this 4 out of 5 stars, and I recommend it to young adults who are into romance novels. The storyline is very light but interesting, and the characters are well-balanced with adorable and hateful personalities. There could’ve been more surprising events to really make the story a romantic thriller, but overall, it was a good reading experience.
