Review
It is eye-opening to learn how complicated it is to live in a country that is not your own. As Marja had expressed in the narrative, being an immigrant isn’t different from being an orphan because you’re defenseless and alone. She lost control of her life when she moved to Chicago, and her husband didn’t make her feel at home at all. Instead, he abandoned her upon realizing the differences in their culture. This book shows how complex interracial relationships can be, and what emotional struggles an immigrant goes through.
If there is one thing that I liked the most in this book, it’s the author’s smooth, philosophical, and conversational writing because it made the reading experience very relaxed and informative. Hence, I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this to readers who are interested in cultural heritage and interracial romance stories.
