Dixie’s son, Dwight, doesn’t live with her because she runs a saloon, and it’s not the kind of environment she wants for him. Tucker is eager to make Dixie happy, so he’s fetching her son in the midst of the snowfall, despite the rough trail, to bring him back for Christmas. The town is dying and Tucker wants to convince Dixie to shut the saloon down, leave, and marry him so they can be a real family somewhere else. The problem is that Dixie doesn’t want to leave the town that her father fought and died for.
Review
Winter Changes is a romantic short story by C. Forrest Lundin. This is a book that can be read in one-sitting. The story is very simple and precise and has all the important elements needed for a good short fiction: character, setting, conflict, plot, and theme. The author did a good job in establishing all of these to write a good tale. In reading this book, I was reminded so much of the Bantam Love Stories Series that I read when I was a teenager, though this book is more recommended for young adults.
I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I can relate with Dixie’s situation because she just wants to protect the people she loves, but I can also relate with Tucker who wants to give her a new life, which is what makes it romantic.
