Summary
Zalmoxis is a play written by Lucian Blaga, and translated by Doris C. Plantus. Zalmoxis is reported to have been a prophet-priest to a branch of the Thracian people called Getae by Greek writers, and Dacian by the Romans. Although Zalmoxis persists historically in an opaque light as an obscure passionate hero in the orphic tradition, in this play, Blaga openly creates a myth that speaks to the complex and innovative religion of the Thracians at that time: the concept of immortality.

Very interesting! I only knew about Zalmoxis and its author, Lucian Blaga through Doris Plantus’ translation. I think only those who could understand the original content, which is in the Romanian language, could provide a more specific evaluation in relation to how accurately it was translated.
In my own point of view, Doris did a great job in sharing this masterpiece in the universal language, so that it could reach a wider range of readers. Hence, I am giving it 5 out of 5 stars. I would love for aficionados of philosophy and religion to find this very interesting translated piece of art, and learn about the Thracian culture, as well as notable characters such as the carver of statues, the hunchback, and the cunning mage.
